WALLACE GENETIC FOUNDATION

PROPOSALS

Organizations invited to submit a Proposal to Wallace Genetic Foundation should include the following with their submission:

  1. A completed “Check List.” (Click on the link to download.) Remember to “save as,” not “save,” each time you make changes.
    1. A scan of the organization’s tax status determination letter from the IRS.
If you previously sent a copy of your organization’s IRS determination letter – and the tax status has not changed – it is not necessary to send another copy now.
      1. A two-page Cover Letter addressed to the Executive Director and written in a letter-style format that answers clearly in the body of the letter the following points.  It is most helpful to us when you use a simple enumerated list of a) through f) with brief answers to each of the questions.
        1. Please provide a brief description of the work for which this grant is requested.
        2. What will be accomplished, by when, with this funding?
        3. Why is the grant needed at this time? Is there a particular urgency?
        4. What major hurdles are foreseen, and how might they be overcome?
        5. What are your measures of success (in the short-term of one-year, and longer term?)
        6. How do you plan to sustain the project if the outcome is deemed a success?
NOTE: Please do not send any other information. (If you want to bring attention to other items published by your organization, please refer to them, by links, in the two-page Cover Letter.)
        1. Budget.
          1. For a General Support grant request, please submit the organization’s budget.
          2. For a Specific Project request, please send both the organization’s budget and a brief line-item budget for the Project.
NOTE: If you do receive a grant, the Report guidelines will ask for the comparison with the budget submitted here to the actuals at the end of the grant reporting period, along with comments regarding any significant differences between the two for the organization’s budget (General Support) or for the project’s line-item budget (Specific Project).
        2. A list of other sources of support, detailing amounts secured and amounts requested from each source for the project and for the organization as a whole.

        Submission and Review:

        1. The Proposal should be submitted as follows:
            1. in electronic form to wgfdn@wallacegenetic.org, AND
            2. in electronic form to the primary board member with whom the organization works, AND
            3. in hard copy by regular U. S. Postal Service mail to the Foundation office in Washington DC (4910 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Suite 221, Washington DC, 20016).
Do not use other delivery services, such as FedEx or UPS, or require a signature or special delivery as there is seldom someone in the office at the usual times of delivery. We have found the U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail service (again, without signature or 2-day special delivery required) to be reliable if you want to include tracking.
          1. Please note that the review process will begin only after all documents have been received in the hard copy and electronic formats requested above.  Review and processing (if approved) may take up to three months, occasionally longer, although the goal is to finalize sooner when possible.

The Wallace Genetic Foundation regrets that it will no longer be accepting unsolicited proposals or calls/letters of inquiry.
